Waste Services Secures Hoover, Gardendale Residential Collection Contracts

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. - Effective October 1, 2015, Waste Services of Alabama (WSAL) began servicing more than 30,000 residential customers in the cities of Hoover and Gardendale, Alabama.

The municipal contracts represent a strategic complement to sister company Santek Environmental of Alabama's landfill management contract with the Jefferson County Commission. Santek began managing the county's waste disposal facilities in 2006.
WSAL is providing twice-per-week residential waste collection service and once-per-week recycling and brush service to Hoover residents. Beginning in November, WSAL will provide leaf collection service to Hoover residents through the month of February. Meanwhile, Gardendale residents are receiving once-per-week waste collection service and can elect to add recycling.

WSAL has invested more than $8.2 million in new vehicles, rolling carts and equipment.
"Initiating the start-up of two residential waste collection contracts on the same day was a challenge, but we've got a good crew of employees who are committed to providing quality service," said Sam Dillender, Santek Waste Services' general manager.

"We're humbled by the confidence city leaders have placed in us and we're excited about the future opportunities this base of business will open up to us," Dillender said.

Santek Waste Services is WSAL's parent company and manages a total of 17 landfills and five transfer stations in nine states. Waste Services' affiliates manage more than 45,000 residential customers, and more than 8,500 commercial and industrial customers in a four-state region.

Santek Acquires White Sanitation

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Officials with Santek Waste Services, Inc. announced today the company’s acquisition of White Sanitation in Trion, Georgia.

The transaction includes all of White Sanitation’s residential, commercial and industrial waste collection customers as well as the operation of a transfer station six miles north of Summerville, Georgia. Because Santek is a privately held company, the terms of the acquisition are not being publicly disclosed. White Sanitation will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Santek.

Santek President Edward Caylor said the purchase of the 38-year-old company complements the acquisition of Davis Sanitation in Ringgold, Georgia earlier in the year.

“The addition of White Sanitation and the transfer station gives us the ability to internalize new waste volumes at our Gordon County landfill, and solidifies our presence in the Northwest Georgia market,” Caylor said. “It’s also a strategic fit for our North Georgia waste collection operation.”

As part of the transaction, Santek will integrate all existing White employees into Santek’s work force.

Santek Waste Services Makes Two Acquisitions

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Officials with Santek Waste Services, Inc. announced today the acquisitions of Evans Recycling and Davis Disposal, both located in Northwest Georgia.
The Evan’s transaction includes a multiple stream Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) at the Redbone Ridges Landfill in Calhoun, Georgia. The Davis purchase gives Santek the ability to expand its residential collection service into the North Georgia market.

“I’m extremely excited about acquiring Evans Recycling,” said Santek President Eddie Caylor. “Not only does it mark our first recycling acquisition, but it gives us the opportunity to expand our partnership with Mohawk Industries in the Northwest Georgia market.

Santek has a long-term agreement with Gordon County government to manage the Redbone Ridges Landfill and will operate the MRF onsite to complement the company’s industrial waste reduction efforts.

The purchase of Davis Disposal will help to bridge Santek’s subscription residential waste service from Bradley County, Tennessee into the North Georgia market. Davis Disposal owner Randy Holliefield will remain with Santek and direct all of the company’s residential waste collection efforts in Tennessee and Georgia.

Both companies will become wholly owned subsidiaries of Santek. Because Santek is a privately owned company, the financial terms of the acquisitions are not being disclosed.
“These transactions are a perfect way to the end the calendar year,” Caylor said. “It’s an exciting time in the life of our company, and we’re evaluating other opportunities which are strategic to growing our hauling operations and our landfill partnerships with local government.”

Santek is headquartered in Cleveland, Tennessee and currently manages 16 solid waste landfills, three transfer stations and four waste collection companies in a nine-state region. The company currently has 340 employees.

Santek, Prospect Elementary Receive
5th Consecutive BEST Partner Award

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Santek Waste Services and Prospect Elementary School recently received its fifth consecutive BEST Partnership Award from the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce.

BEST, an acronym for Business and Education Serving Together, is a workforce development initiative of the chamber.

The award was presented to company and school officials in March during the chamber’s Breakfast for Champions which recognized 42 business and 27 schools who partner together throughout the Cleveland/Bradley County community.

This year, Santek and Prospect focused on a new leadership academy, designed to instill leadership qualities in the K-5 school population. During the first half of the 2011-12 school year, teachers and students adopted a college or university of choice. Santek purchased collegiate flags for each classroom and students spent the first semester learning about their school’s academic world. During the second semester, each class selected a country, and studied its unique culture, history and geography. Santek provided classes with national flags.
Other activities included Muffins for Moms; Popsicles in the Park; corporate Christmas card design contest; art show; corporate Christmas concert; faculty Valentine’s Day luncheon; catered Silver Tray Luncheon for fifth graders.

“We’re very proud of our partnership with Prospect,” said Santek Executive Vice President of Marketing Cheryl Dunson. “Before the start of every school year, we sit down with Principal Steve Montgomery and Guidance Counselor Michele Dunkle to plan the year ahead. Our goal is to be continually and consistently working together to promote an excellent learning environment for the students while inviting the school into our corporate world.”

Although only five years old, the Santek-Prospect partnership has won the BEST Platinum-level award every year since its inception.
